Other than Isaiah's Place being the best place to be, here are some other great resources:
- Hands and Voices will be my second pick. They have state chapters which you can locate on their website. They are an awesome resource for current laws per state and advocating for your child. Many states offer a telephone assistance program. DARS offers such a program in Texas. We used it and my daughter received a free cell phone for text messaging.
- Texas has a great network of deaf events called Deaf Network. It really is the best way to stay informed of what is going on around Texas.
- Texas School for the Deaf has an incredible Outreach office. The outreach office offers services to students that do not attend TSD. They also offer a lending library for free! Tell Lisa Crawford that I sent ya!
Colorado Resources
- Colorado School for the Deaf is a good resource here. They offer yearly parent retreats for parents of young deaf children.
- Hands and Voices is based in Colorado, but we also have our own chapter.
Nation-wide Resources
- Deaf Missions and Silent Blessings are awesome Christian resources. They offer fun videos, books, Bibles and more! They also do a family camp every year.
- Harris Communications offers tons of resources.
- American Society for Deaf Children is a wonderful organization that offers a magazine and a family camp every other year. We got to go one year and really learned a lot and enjoyed ourselves. We are planning to go again in 2013..
- Another Path is another deaf homeschooling website that has some good resources.
- D-PAN is a fun website. Check out their videos.
That should get you started! Have fun digging around.
Here are some of my favorite resources from Deaf Missions and Silent Blessings:
Here are some other titles I have used:
I have read this book . . . twice. It has some nuggets to offer you, particularly with behavior issues. It has good information as to common behavior problems with deaf children usually resulting from frustration. The thing I don't like about it, is that it is very child-centered and we believe in a Christ-centered approach. So take out the good stuff and leave the other.

I really like this book! It is a BIG book full of information. So if you are curious or are new to the deaf world, this book will answer all of your questions about the culture, language and the people.
